Hundreds of people have been confirmed dead in the massive 8.9-magnitude earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on Friday.
The earthquake is the worst in Japan's history and has caused widespread devastation in a nation that is seen as better prepared than others in dealing with natural disasters. Yet, the scale of the calamity shows there are limits to preparing for a mega natural disaster.
In the quake-hit areas, 5.6 million households had no power on Saturday and more than one million households were without water. Amid a gargantuan rescue effort, Japan also braced for a nuclear reactor meltdown following two plants losing cooling ability.
Here is a collection of videos that show the scope of the calamity.
